Cancel USAA Renters Insurance

We’ll explore all your options to help you make the best decision.

We understand things change.

Your financial security is important to us, and we want to make sure you're protected. Before you cancel your policy, consider your options and ways to save.

Reasons you may not need to cancel

When your needs change, your policy can too. You can still make sure your stuff is protected, anywhere you go. Instead of canceling your renters insurance, another option may be updating it.

Moving back home temporarily

If you’re moving back in with your parents, you can keep protecting your things from theft or damage caused by a covered event. You may be able to remove liability protection since it’s likely included in their homeowners policy.

Moving in with roommates

Your policy covers you and your things. And liability coverage can help protect your finances. Your roommates will need their own policy. Also, your landlord may require it.

Moving into assisted living

You may still need to protect your stuff, even in storage. Liability coverage may help protect you if you’re responsible for someone else’s injury or damage to their property.‍ ‍ See note 1

Moving on base? Review your coverage.

If you’re moving on base or post, you may want to keep your policy since Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) may not protect your things.

With our renters insurance, you're covered at home, during PCS and deployment, and everywhere in between.

Cancel renters insurance FAQ

If you're switching insurance companies, wait until your new policy is in effect to avoid a gap in coverage.

In most cases, we’ll send you a refund within 3 to 10 business days unless you have an outstanding balance. We’ll mail you a check or deposit the money in your bank account, depending on your payment method. If you have questions, call us at 800-531-USAA (8722).

Not paying your bill can affect your credit and ability to get other insurance. Your current policy would also have a note saying it lapsed because of nonpayment. As a result, you may pay higher rates if you decide to come back. Plus, you might not qualify for certain discounts.
