How USAA bills you for auto and property policies

One bill

You’ll get one bill for all your USAA auto and property policies. If your mortgage company pays your homeowners insurance, we’ll bill them. You’ll get separate bills for your other insurance agency policies, like flood and windstorm.

Monthly

If you haven’t paid your premium in full, you’ll get a bill every month with your minimum amount due. Get your bills faster when you sign up for online documents.

Automatic renewals

We automatically renew most policies. If your policy premium changes at renewal, your amount due could also change. View renewal packets and bills in My Documents.

Paying my bill

What to pay

You can pay your premium in full or pay the minimum amount due each month. If you pay more than the minimum, it’ll lower your next bill.

Ways to pay

How to pay

You can make your payment using a credit card, debit card, bank account or check. We don’t accept cash payments.

Automatic payments

Choose the account you want to pay from, your payment date and if you want to pay your balance in full, monthly or twice a month when you set up an automatic payment plan, or APP. Then, you can sign up for alerts and we’ll remind you five days before your due date.

Why did my bill amount change?

Your bill amount can change for several reasons. If rates change or you add a driver to your policy, your auto premium may go up.

And home renovations may cause your homeowners premium to change.

Understanding Why Your Bill Changed

Video Duration: 2 minutes 45 seconds

Your bill amount can change: Elapsed time 0 seconds [00:00]
Your bill amount can change for several reasons and at different times.
Here are some common reasons why.

#1: Your renewal rate increased: Elapsed time 7 seconds [00:07]
We never raise rates to make up for past claims. But we do look at several factors when determining future rates, such as:

  • The likelihood you’ll have a claim and how much it would cost to pay for it.
  • The expected frequency and severity of future claims in the area where you live.
  • Economic events that may cause prices to rise.

#2: You made changes to your policy: Elapsed time 31 seconds [00:31]
These can be things like adding drivers, changing coverage options or updating your home characteristics.

#3: You added a new policy: Elapsed time 41 seconds [00:41]
Insurance policy periods typically last six months or 12 months. But if you add a policy without a down payment, the duration might be shorter. This could make your monthly payment higher.

#4: You changed your due date: Elapsed time 56 seconds [00:56]
If you changed your due date, you might get two charges in one statement. This one-time occurrence happens when the last payment of your current policy and the first payment of your renewal are due at the same time.

#5: You missed a payment: Elapsed time 1 minute 12 seconds [01:12]
If you missed a payment or only made a partial payment, then your next minimum due amount will include the unpaid amount from the month before, plus any fees. You may also receive a cancellation notice. Make sure you pay the amount on the notice by the due date to stop the cancellation.

It’s important to stay current on your policy. You can sign up for alerts or automatic payments to make sure your bills get paid on time.

You can find a lot of important information about your policies on your insurance bill.

Online and Mobile Billing Statement: Elapsed time 1 minute 46 seconds [01:46]

Need more time to pay?

Pause your payment.

If you’re signed up for APP, you may be able to pause your payment. That’ll give you an extra month to pay. Your next bill will include your regular amount and any amount you didn’t pay the month before. A late fee may apply.

Carry over your payment.

Let us know before you miss a payment, and you could qualify to carry over your balance. You’ll pay your regular amount and past due amount on your next bill. A late fee may apply.

Spread out your payment.

Need more than a month to catch up? First, you’ll need to let us know how much of the current bill you can pay. Then, if you qualify, we’ll spread the remaining balance over your next three bills.

What if I received a nonpayment cancellation, or NPC?

If you got an NPC, it means you’re behind on your auto and property payments. You’ll need to pay the amount on the NPC notice by the due date to stop the cancellation.

You can make payments for the full amount online before the cancellation date. For other options, call us.
