Visa® Secure FAQ

Visa Secure

It's advanced technology that helps you shop online safely using your phone, computer and other digital devices. For your protection, Visa Secure adds another layer of security when you're checking out with your Visa debit or credit card. You'll see the Visa Secure badge on participating merchant websites. When you shop online using them:

  • The merchant can share information with us before we authorize the purchase.
  • You may be asked to verify your identity during checkout on some transactions.

If you're asked to verify your identity, you could get a USAA Mobile App notification, a text or email with a one-time code, or a request to answer a security question. The verification method could vary based on your account security preferences and the device you're using. The end result is your online experience has an additional layer of security.

Visa Secure is designed to help protect your Visa debit or credit card from unauthorized use. If you're making an online purchase with a merchant that uses Visa Secure, you may be asked to verify your identity during checkout. The verification method you'll see will depend on your account security preferences and the device you're using. You could receive one of the following:

  • Notification in the USAA Mobile App.
  • One-time security code by text or email.
  • Request to answer security questions.

Even if someone knows your Visa card number, they can't use it to make purchases online if the website has Visa Secure. To make an unauthorized purchase, they'd need access to your email, the USAA Mobile App on your device or the answers to your security questions.
