Setting up and managing e-bills for non-USAA bills
An e-bill is an electronic version of your paper bill. It typically contains the same information as your statement. You can enroll eligible non-USAA bills to get your statements online instead of receiving them on paper.
Choose the biller's name, then "Manage E-bill."
You can also see past payments in "View Payment History" on the USAA Pay Bills page.
For USAA and non-USAA e-bills paid through USAA Pay Bills, the message will clear after your payment posts.
For non-USAA e-bills paid from another bank, the message displays until your next e-bill is available. To clear it, select the message and choose "File Bill."
Adding, changing and deleting billers
Go to the USAA Pay Bills page and choose "Add New Bill."
All USAA bills are automatically added to your Pay Bills page when you get the product.
- To change a non-USAA bill from the USAA Pay Bills page, choose the biller's name and pick "Edit Bill."
- To delete a bill, choose the biller's name and pick "Delete Bill."
- If you've signed up for e-bills, you'll need to cancel them before you can delete the biller.
These features are only available for bills you’ve set up with e-bills.
Setting up payment accounts
For USAA bills, you can pay your bill with any checking or savings account. You can also use MasterCard®, Visa® or American Express® to pay your auto and property bill.
Non-USAA bills must be paid with a USAA checking account.
On the USAA Pay Bills page, choose the name of the USAA bill you want to pay, then pick "Use Another Account" under "Payment Account." Follow the directions to add the non-USAA account.
On the USAA Pay Bills page, choose "Manage Payment Accounts" or "Manage Payment Accounts for Non-USAA Bills."
Yes. You’ll need to cancel all pending and automatic payments tied to the closed or deleted payment account right away.
Setting up and managing automatic payments
On the USAA Pay Bills page, choose the name of the biller and pick either "Set Up Automatic Payments" or "Modify Automatic Payments." To modify a USAA credit card automatic payment plan, cancel the existing plan, then set up a new one.
Yes. To cancel a single automatic payment, choose "View Payment History" and look for the pending payment. Hover over the biller name and pick "Cancel This Payment."
To cancel all automatic payments for a bill other than your USAA auto and property bill, choose the biller name and then pick "Manage Automatic Payments."
To cancel automatic payments for your USAA auto and property bill, call us at 800-531-USAA (8722).
When you first signed up for automatic payments, you authorized USAA to make electronic withdrawals and deposits to your account until you revoke the authorization and USAA has time to act.
Yes. If it’s a USAA bill, your one-time payment may affect the amount paid in your automatic payment plan depending on the bill. Your automatic payment may still go through on the scheduled date unless you cancel it.
Scheduling, funding and posting payments
You can schedule non-USAA bill payments up to one year in advance. You can schedule payments to USAA bills based on the following:
- USAA Auto and property – Until the end of the policy period
- USAA Life and health insurance – 180 days in advance
- USAA Consumer loans – 180 days in advance
- USAA Credit cards – 90 days in advance
For electronic payments, we’ll withdraw the money from your account on the scheduled "Deliver By" date. USAA bills are generally posted to your account on the date you choose. Other billers will apply payment based on their own system.
With non-USAA bills that we send by paper check, we’ll deduct the money when the check is cashed. This typically happens within a few days of the "Deliver By" date, which is the estimated date your payment will reach the biller. Non-USAA billers may cash a check if they receive it before the scheduled "Deliver By" date, so we suggest keeping enough money in your account to cover the check from the time you submit it.
Go to the "View Payment History" page and you'll see its status as one of these:
- Pending: The payment has a scheduled "Deliver By" date, but you may still be able to modify or cancel it. Once a payment begins processing, it still shows as pending but can't be modified or canceled.
- Scheduled: The payment is scheduled for a future date and can be modified or canceled.
- Completed: The payment has processed and can't be modified or canceled.
- Canceled: The payment was canceled at your request. Hover over the biller name and choose "View Payment Detail” for more information on the cancellation.
- Failed: The payment couldn't be processed as requested.
A one-time payment made with a:
- Bank account, credit or debit card will display immediately once the payment is scheduled or completed.
- Check, cashier's check, money order or wire will display once the payment posts to the USAA payment account.
Automatic payments will display as soon as the system schedules the future-dated payment.
You can submit payments to USAA bills based on the following:
- USAA credit cards and consumer loan payments before 11:59 p.m. CT each day will post that day.
- Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) payments before 5 p.m. CT, Monday to Friday, will post the same business day.
- All other USAA account payments before 11:55 a.m. CT, Monday to Friday, will post the same day.
- Any payments made outside these times and days will post the next business day and may take up to two business days to show up.
To avoid cancellation, you’ll need to pay the minimum amount due on or before the last day listed on your cancellation notice. You can make your payment by:
- Logging on to usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App.
- Mailing it to us using the enclosed envelope in your cancellation notice. Be sure it’s postmarked on or before the last day to submit your payment.
- Calling us at 800-531-USAA (8722).
For more information, read our auto and property insurance bill FAQ.
For billers that don't accept electronic payments, we mail a paper check through the U.S. Postal Service, which can take up to five business days or longer.
When possible, we issue electronic payments that generally take 1 to 2 business days to process.
It may take a few days for their system to show the payment. Wait a few days to see if it’s applied or contact the biller's customer service department. If the problem isn’t resolved, call us at 800-531-USAA (8722).
Paying consumer and home equity loans
Yes. You can make a payment for the minimum amount due and then set up a one-time additional principal payment. You won’t be able to make an additional payment if your loan is past due.
Yes. Any past-due amount is included in the minimum payment.
Managing my hidden bills
You'll get a notification if you've:
- Signed up to get e-bills for the biller.
- Set up a reminder for the bill through USAA Pay Bills.
Your automatic payments will continue, even if that biller is hidden. However, you won't get a notification since there's no action required on your part.
Canceling or modifying payments
Yes. You can change or cancel payments for USAA bills until 11:59 p.m. CT the business day before the "Deliver By" date. For non-USAA bills, you can make changes until the payment starts processing, which can be up to five business days before the scheduled "Deliver By" date.
If the payment hasn’t started processing, you can cancel it by going to the USAA Pay Bills page and choosing "View Payment History." Look for the pending payment in your list. Hover over the biller name and pick "Cancel This Payment" or "Modify This Payment." If those choices aren't available, the payment has already started processing and can't be changed or canceled.
Sharing access to my bills
They must be a joint account holder on your USAA checking account. First, add them to a new or existing USAA checking account. Then, find them on the "Update Access to My Bills" page. Once added, they’ll be able to pay any USAA or non-USAA bills on usaa.com. You can remove them at any time by changing your selection from "Yes" to "No."
Whether you're granting them access or removing it, the change will take effect the next time that person logs on to usaa.com or the mobile app with their own Online ID.
When you set up a bill to pay from usaa.com, you’re the only one who can see it. But you may not be the only person responsible for paying it. Sharing access to your bills allows someone else to manage them. For example, they could make or cancel a one-time payment if you can't access usaa.com or the mobile app because of a deployment, illness or other situation. You can share access to your bills without giving access to your usaa.com account.
Yes. You're only giving access to your bills, billers and balances due. You're not giving access to your personal accounts or information. You control who is and isn't allowed to view and pay these bills. This is safer than allowing someone to use your Online ID and password. Anyone who has your Online ID and password has access to perform all functions on usaa.com under your name.
Reminders and alerts
These are notifications you can set up to remind you when your bill's due date is coming up. They’re just called something different depending on the type of bill. Reminders are for your non-USAA bills, and alerts are for USAA auto and property and credit card bills.
Choose the biller on the USAA Pay Bills page, then pick "Set Up and Manage Alerts."
Choose the biller on the USAA Pay Bills page, then pick “Manage Reminders."
