What's a temporary debit card block?
It's a way to temporarily stop your card from being used, so it stays secure.
You might need to block a debit card if:
- You've misplaced it.
- You want to stop an unauthorized person from using it.
- You want to decline new or unexpected transactions.
What could prevent me from blocking or unblocking a debit card?
Your debit card might not be eligible for several reasons.
- We blocked it due to suspicious activity.
- We suspended the account because of misuse.
- You're a minor trying to unblock your debit card.
- You're a minor trying to manage another cardholder's debit card.
What types of transactions get declined when I block a debit card?
These include things like:
- Activating your card.
- Changing your card's PIN.
- Replacing a damaged or expired card.
- Withdrawing cash from ATMs or requesting limit changes.
- Making purchases through your digital wallet, such as Apple Pay®, Samsung Pay® or Google Pay®.
- Making online or recurring payments.
Do I need to block a debit card that was stolen or used for fraud?
If your debit card was stolen or you suspect fraud, you should report it instead of temporarily blocking it.

What if I want to unblock a card?
To unblock a debit card, select “Get started” on this page. You can unselect any card that you’ve blocked.

Recurring transactions might be declined while the debit card is blocked. This could result in fees from any merchants you have recurring charges with, so you'll need to update your payment method.
No. The new debit card will have a new number and no block. If you want to add a temporary block, you can do it after activating the card.
New and recurring transactions that are pending, like bill payments, might still go through.
