How USAA protects your accounts and personal information

Our commitment to your security

Securing your personal information is one of our top priorities. Your information sits behind a secure electronic perimeter that’s monitored for unusual activity 24/7.

Our extensive security program includes dedicated teams to detect and investigate threats. As we uncover them, we'll let you know how you could be affected and suggest ways to help protect yourself.

Fraud alerts to help protect your money

You're automatically enrolled in our 24/7 fraud alerts program. If something seems unusual, we'll send you an alert.‍ ‍ See note 1 The quicker you respond, the faster we'll be able to help prevent loss.

Usual activity could include:

  • Unusual debit or credit card activity.
  • Large wire transfers.
  • Debit card withdrawal limit changes.

Zero Liability Policy

You aren't responsible for unauthorized credit card‍ ‍ See note 2 and debit card‍ ‍ See note 3 transactions you report to us. If you notice something unusual, learn how to report it.

Security alerts to help protect your Online ID

We also look for unauthorized access to your personal information. If we notice anything unusual, we'll send you an alert. This could include someone trying to update your profile information, Online ID or password.

Secure access to your accounts

We’ve adopted proven industry standards like multifactor authentication to help protect you. We offer several ways for you to log on online and verify your identity over the phone.

Make sure it’s really us.

Financial institutions, including USAA, are noticing an increase in fraud scams. You can report unusual calls, texts, emails and links to abuse@usaa.com.

Phone Calls and Texts

We’ll never call or text to ask for your password, PIN or one-time code. If someone calls or texts you claiming to be a USAA employee and asks for any of these things, it could be fraud.

Emails From USAA

Our emails have a personalized "USAA Security Zone.” It includes your name and the last four digits of your USAA number. If the information is wrong or missing, it’s not from us.

USAA Mobile App

Make sure to download our app from an official app store. The developer should be listed as USAA. Our app is free — if it asks you to pay, it’s not really us.
