How the nonpolicyholder claims process works

Step 2 We'll contact you.

You'll be contacted with next steps, as needed, to move the claim forward.

Step 3 Inspect your vehicle.

We'll tell you how to get an approved estimate for your vehicle.

Step 4 We'll send payment.

If we accept liability, we'll pay you or the shop for approved repairs.

When to file a nonpolicyholder claim with USAA

You should file with us if:

  • You're confident the accident was not your fault.
  • You have all the information you need to file a nonmember claim with USAA.

You may not want to file with us if:

  • You're not sure if you were at fault.
  • You'd prefer to work with your own insurance company.

Choosing a repair shop

You have the right to use the repair facility of your choice. Your selection won't affect our obligation to pay any claims-related costs. If you need help, we can recommend shops from the USAA Direct Repair Network, which provides high-quality customer service and repairs.
