What's the Good Student Discount?

If an eligible driver meets certain academic standards, you could save up to 10% on your car insurance.

In most states, the discount applies to bodily injury, property damage, medical payments, personal injury protection, and comprehensive and collision coverage. Learn more about the types of car insurance coverage.

The Good Student Discount isn't available in Hawaii or North Carolina.

How do I qualify?

In most states, the requirements are that the driver must be under 25 years old and a full-time student in high school, college, or vocational or technical school.

The student has to meet one of these grade standards:

  • Rank in the top 20% of the class
  • Letter grade average of B or better
  • Grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Dean's list, honor roll or a comparable standing

How do I apply?

Go to your auto insurance policy on usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App to tell us how you qualify. You'll need to complete a form before the discount can be applied and again at each annual renewal.
