Cancel homeowners insurance

We’ll explore all your options to help you make the best decision.

We understand things change.

Your financial security is important to us, and we want to make sure you're protected. Before you cancel your policy, consider your options and ways to save.

Selling and buying? Cancel at the right time.

If you're selling your house, don't cancel coverage until after closing. Even if you're not living there, you may still be liable for anything that happens to it or on the property.

When you buy your new home, make sure your new policy starts on the closing date.

If you’re selling your home and switching to a rental

Keep your homeowners policy until the closing process is complete, so you don’t have any gaps in coverage.

Get renters insurance to help protect your stuff, even if it’s in storage. Making the switch to USAA Renters Insurance is easy.

Stay protected in any situation.

Rental property insurance, also called landlord insurance, can help you when your needs change.

Renting out your home

If you decide to rent out your home, you can switch to our landlord insurance for the protection you need.

Plus, your membership gives you access to member discounts, such as tenant screening.

Family members living in the home

If family members are living in your home but you aren’t, you need landlord insurance.

They should also have renters insurance. Even if they’re not paying rent, it’ll protect their stuff.

When you PCS or deploy

A military move can be a stressful time. You can easily change your homeowners policy to a landlord one if you're called away for duty.

If you decide to list your home as a vacation rental, landlord insurance can help protect you.

When you add another policy and bundle them together, you may be able to get a discount.‍ ‍ See note 6
