A credit card balance transfer could help you save money.

Combining your non-USAA credit card balances may help you save on interest and pay off what you owe faster.

Make a balance transfer work for you.

The "do's" of balance transfers

  • Read the fine print before you get a new card or transfer a balance.
  • Understand the fees, terms and conditions. Fees may be charged as a percentage of the balance transfer.
  • Find out if the interest rate is promotional and how long it'll last.‍ ‍ See note 1

The "don'ts" of balance transfers

  • Don't transfer balances to a credit card with a higher interest rate.
  • Don't close the credit card you transfer from without understanding the impact. This could affect your credit score.
  • Don't pay less than your monthly payment. Your account could eventually be in default.
  • Don't stop paying your minimum payment due. Balance transfers don't count toward it.
