Who can get a VA home loan?
These are the VA requirements:
- Served at least 181 days straight during peacetime
- Served at least 90 days straight during wartime
- Served as a Reservist or in the National Guard for at least six years
- The spouse of a service member who died in action or from a service-related disability

Step 2: Confirm VA loan eligibility.
Get a certificate of eligibility, or COE, from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (Opens in New Window).

Step 3: Apply for the loan.
Once you've found a home, finish your application online or call a loan officer. This is a good time to start gathering income information like paystubs and bank statements.
